My art explores the overlooked and undererpresentended black and brown faces seen in beauty and fashion adverts and campaigns. My work is often an exploration of light and how it wraps around the human form, much like Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio did in his Baroque paintings. Utilizing many different faces and skin tones I am able to build out a concrete representation of the diverse world we live in. My goal is not to diverge from the full gloss of the fashion and beauty industry, but instead to offer a new perspective through the fashion photography lens. My mediums of video and photography allow me control the narrative while introducing the viewer to a new point of view. My work thus far has been focused on experimenting with strobe lighting both in and out of the studio for a fuller understanding of how light travels. During each session I pay close attention to how the light can be controlled to best represent the colors and features of the subject.
